Hiking
The Wanaka region has a superb selection of hikes and wilderness
trails which are accessible to most fitness levels, ranging
from a short lakeside stroll to trails in forested valleys
and across pristine alpine wilderness and alpine terrain.
Explore the Outlet Track & Waterfall Creek around Lake
Wanaka, Diamond Lake (20 minute drive) or the Rob Roy Glacier
Hike (1 hour drive), regarded as one of the best day walks
in New Zealand.
Wanaka is the gateway to the spectacular Mt. Aspiring National
Park, a world Heritage area.
We can assist with advice for day walks or longer expeditions.
A transfer service operates from the Lodge to the Park.
Scenic Flights
From Wanaka Airport take in the spectacular sights of the
Southern Alps and the Mt Aspiring National Park.
We highly recommend the flight over Aspiring to Milford Sound
allowing time for a cruise before flying back over Lake Wakitipu
and Queenstown.
Another stunning trip is to the Siberia Valley by air, then
a leisurely 3 hour bush walk followed by a jetboat trip down
the Wilkin River.
Scenic flights to Mt Cook are also available.
Rivers & Lake
The Wanaka region has two lakes – Wanaka & Hawea
which are over 1000ft deep, and numerous rivers. Enjoy a cruise
on Lake Wanaka to Stevensons Island (bird sanctuary ) or to
Mou Waho Island with its own idyllic lake on the island.
The lake is also popular for water skiing, jet boating, kayaking
& windsurfing.
The Wanaka region is popular for fishing with lake and river
fishing. We can arrange guided fly fishing and hunting trips.
Jetboat the majestic Matukituki, Wilkin or Clutha rivers.
Eco raft trips also available on the Clutha.
Adventure
You may like to try one of the many adventure activities
including jet-boating on the Clutha River (New Zealands largest
river), tandem paragliding over Lake Wanaka, river canyoning,
sky diving, horse trekking or white-water rafting.
There are many mountain bike and walking trails close to
the Lodge.
Relax
Or something at a more sedate pace - relax with a game of
golf or a spot of fly fishing. Nearby are a gymnasium, swimming
pool, Stuart Landsborough's amazing Puzzling World, and the
Fighter Pilots Museum featuring a large collection of World
War II fighters that form the basis of the bi-annual "Warbirds
over Wanaka".
Alternatively taste our local brew at Wanaka Beerworks or
enjoy a tour of Central Otago's Vineyards, New Zealand's fastest
growing wine region and world famous for its superb Pinot
Noir.
Wanaka has its own quirky local theatre - Cinema Paradiso
and a wide range of shops, galleries, bars, cafes and restaurants.
All activities can be arranged in advance of your visit ,
